Don't go calling me a mean mom. We've been dealing with multiple night wakings for months. I know, he's a baby and I expect that. Its perfectly normal for him to get up 1 or 2 times a night and I'm happy to do that. But, I've created a monster. I nursing to sleep monster.
After reading countless mommy blods, sleep books, mommy forums, I"ve learned that babies form very strong sleep associations. Mine needs a boob or a bottle to put himself to sleep. Thats worked pretty well for months as he goes to sleep relatively quickly and is easy to get back to sleep in the middle of the night. But, lately he's been getting up 3 to 5 times a nights and that's not good for anyone. No one is that hungry. What is likely the problem is that he wakes up and, oh no, the boob isn't there anymore! What to do? Cry for it to come back, of course. Which is does, every single time.
So, now we are learning to fall asleep without aforementioned boob. Now, he gets fed, gets changed, gets books, gets a song and then is placed in his crib wide awake. The first night he cried for 16 minutes. The second he cried for only 2 1/2. Yay. Last night he cried for 17 minutes. Hmmm. And tonight, he cried for about 30 seconds, sort of, and was fast asleep by 4 1/2 minutes. Wow. He's a fast learner. Now, I'm not so certain that this is fixing the waking up all night business, but I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks. At least we can have babysitters over who don't have to breastfeed the baby to sleep (kidding). I'll update as we keep up with this.
